Overwhelm: A Poem

The world dealt you problems
as big the ocean
and I’m trying to scoop them out
with a thimble

But God’s presence
is bigger than
a billion galaxies
and he has your healing
in his fingertips

How do I know?
Because he absorbed my own ocean
into his body

my problems
seeped
into his veins
pumped
through
His circulatory system

Until his heart felt so heavy
with the world
and its suffering
that the gravity of
his love
brought him
down to earth

He loved us until His heart
burst open
and his blood,
mingled with
the oceans of
our suffering
spilled from His side-
blood and water

His love shown in the ultimate sacrifice

I’ll stop trying
to scoop your problems out
with a thimble,
because it isn’t working

but I won’t stop trying
to connect you
with God’s fingertips,
until he sews us all up
into a tapestry of healing-
covering the nations
like an ocean of redemption
